Uppsala University (www.uu.se)
was founded in 1477 and is thereby the oldest university
in Sweden. It has presently 38 000 students and 5600 employed,
whereof 3600 scientific staff. About 60 % of the turnover
is devoted to research and graduate education. Uppsala University
is member of ENEN. Two departments have activities of nuclear
power relevance.
Department of Neutron Research (INF)
The Department of Neutron Research (INF) has presently nine
senior staff members and eleven PhD students. The research
is mainly in applied nuclear physics, with activities within
fusion neutron diagnostics, as well as neutron nuclear data
research for applications within energy technology, nuclear
waste incineration, cancer therapy and reliability of electronics.
INF performs undergraduate teaching in engineering physics,
with specialization within nuclear power related areas.
In addition, INF collaborates with the Swedish Nuclear Training
and Safety Centre, insofar that INF provides courses for
training of personnel in the Swedish nuclear power industry.
Department of Radiation Sciences (ISV)
The Department of Radiation Sciences (ISV) has a research
group working on gamma detection for back-end issues of
the nuclear fuel cycle, e.g., tomography of spent nuclear
fuel. The group comprises two senior staff members and three
PhD students.
